About the work

Reverie sits within Richard Whadcock’s ongoing exploration of atmosphere through layered oil paint.

The surface is built slowly, with thin glazes that allow colour to shift and settle over time. Light seems to come from within the painting rather than sitting on the surface, giving it a quiet depth.

There’s a loose sense of landscape, but nothing fixed. A horizon forms and dissolves, holding a soft, luminous centre, while the surrounding space remains open and diffused.

The title points to that state of quiet drifting. Not a specific place, but a moment of pause, where the mind moves between thought and feeling.

The work reveals itself gradually, asking for time rather than attention all at once.

Wine pairing

To be officially paired on the 10th April by Henry at Butlers wine cellar
