About the work
Grow reflects Christina Fedyk’s ongoing interest in gardening, approached through process rather than direct depiction.
Built through layers of oil-based ink on paper, the surface is worked, disrupted and reworked over time. Marks are applied, pressed, lifted and partially removed, leaving traces of earlier stages visible. The image develops gradually, through accumulation rather than a single gesture.
The dark circular forms read as finger-like mushrooms, emerging within a structured but unsettled ground. They act as points of weight within the composition, interrupting and anchoring the surrounding surface.
There is a clear parallel with cultivation. Areas are built up, broken down and allowed to shift, creating a sense of growth that feels organic rather than fixed. The final image is not imposed, but arrived at.
