About the work

Each work begins with a found surface. Fragments of old school books, quietly carrying their own histories, repurposed as the ground for something new.

Lock’s practice sits between painting and drawing, where time, rhythm and gesture take precedence over representation. These vertical lines act as markers. Traces of movement. A way of holding a moment without fixing it completely.

There is a sense of pacing in the work. Repetition, interruption, variation. The composition feels simple at first, but reveals a subtle structure and balance the longer you stay with it.

The torn edges are left visible, not as a detail, but as a reminder of origin. The work has been carried forward rather than constructed.

In the gallery, each piece is float mounted within a slim oak box frame, allowing the paper to sit lightly within space, emphasising both its fragility and presence.

Wine pairing

A light, mineral-driven white.
Chablis or young Aligoté. Clean, linear, quietly persistent.
